MY MISSION

At Journey to Healing Counseling Services, my goal is to assist you in living the life you desire to live. As we develop a therapeutic relationship, we’ll collaborate in an effort to establish your treatment goals. A significant part of this involves supporting you in becoming aware of thought processes and behavior patterns that are keeping you stuck.

 

A critical next step is assisting you in your acceptance of these happiness-sabotaging practices. From there we will work together to formulate an action plan that will help you accomplish your treatment goals.

MY METHOD

As a marriage and family therapist, I approach my client’s challenges with a systemic view in mind. This means I help you make the connection between the symptoms you experience and its relation to your social environment and your interactions with others, especially your family of origin. I believe in blending clinical secular theories with Biblical truths, while also fostering a safe, judgment-free atmosphere that builds hope and facilitates positive change.

 

For this to happen, I aim to “feel” my clients using the client-centered, collaborative approach to getting well. Hence my “T.E.A.M.M” philosophy to therapy—Together Everything’s Always More Manageable.” As you and I team up and develop a therapeutic relationship, I am confident that together we can work through and overcome the challenges you face and get you started on your journey to wellness.

Guidance on Every Step of the Journey

Individual Therapy

Life is a journey and can be very difficult to travel, especially when traveling alone and battling things like low self-esteem, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, and other forms of mental distress.

 

Although I specialize in marriage, couples, and family therapy, a large part of my work involves therapeutic support to individuals. Importantly, I keep in mind that these individuals are connected to a larger system, namely their family, that in many ways impact their personal wellbeing. I am passionate about joining my individual clients in their journey and supporting them in finding their way to wellness and a life they feel worth living.

 

Using a collaborative, person-centered  approach, my aim is to provide you, the client, assistance in getting unstuck, feeling good about yourself, and establishing healthy, fulfilling relationships that can aid you in the healing process.

Couples Therapy

Countless couples who were once madly in love with one another find themselves drifting apart. Many of them long to get the love back, but their attempts to get it turn up empty and leave them feeling hopeless about the relationship. The good new is, with the right support, couples can rekindle the kind of love they long for.

 

In my work with couples, most have been surprised to discover things about themselves and their relationship they were not aware of that contributed to their ongoing conflict and unhappiness. Many of these couples also did not realize that making just slight changes, like how they communicate their love needs and desires, goes a long way in bringing life back into the relationship. Using a family systems/emotionally focused couples therapy approach, I help couples turn what they once called “irreconcilable differences” into differences they understand and even appreciate.

Family Therapy

It is my philosophy that “Families who go to therapy together, heal together.” Often, when a family member experiences emotional, mental, or psychological difficulties, that individual is identified as “the one” in need of therapy. The family thinks “If only he or she would get help, they [and the family] would be better.” But the truth is, often, the “identified patient”—the one assumed to have the problem—is simply the one bearing the symptoms of the actual problem going on within the family. Which means, if you really want to “fix” the person, you can’t do it without “fixing” the family. Through the use of family systems therapy, I help families identify interactional patterns that sabotage individual and family happiness. From there, I assist families in finding ways to support one another in their healing journey.
